Getting ready for the newest Spartan!

I just finished shipping this MSU-Spartan-devoted blanket off to Cousin Nick and his beautiful wife, Beata, who are expecting their first little one in a couple of weeks.

I can't wait to meet my newest baby blanket model!

(And thanks to Claire, once again, for sitting in as my model, along with her baby dolphin).

We got in!

I'm happy to report that La Femme Monkita and Jennifer Joy Creative were accepted to the Detroit Urban Craft Fair Nov. 15 at the Fillmore in Detroit (formerly the State Theatre).

We applied as joint vendors and were one of 66 individuals or groups chosen from 185 who applied. Everyone I have spoken to who has participated in the fair in the past said it is a lot of fun and there are some truly amazing and unique items available. Food will be available for purchase throughout the day by the vegan eatery and cooking school, Detroit Evolution Laboratory .

We will have our own booth featuring many of Jennifer Joy Creative's handmade eco-friendly clothing and accessories, hand spun and hand-dyed yarn in addition to La Femme Monkita's hand-dyed yarn and knitted goods.

I'm sure I'll be sending out some kind of reminder as the fair gets closer, but I just wanted to let everyone know!

Click HERE for more information on the Detroit Urban Craft Fair.

To check out JJC's goods, visit her Etsy shop and, as always, you can check out my stuff in my Etsy shop as well.

Hope to see you in November!

New baby blanket!

I've knitted my fourth or fifth baby blanket in recent weeks -- this one to sell! I had so much fun using some really vibrant colors that I think would be wonderful for a little girl or a little boy.

Here are a couple of pictures, and you can check it out in the La Femme Monkita Etsy shop HERE.

Vegan coffee cozy featured in Etsy Treasury!

La Femme Monkita's tri-color knitted vegan coffee cozy is featured in an Etsy Treasury created by MegzyTred.

She said:

I love this concept and it looks really cozy too!
I had this one favorited in my other store, but this morning I used it to make my treasury really sparkle!

The colors look really nice and it's always refreshing to get to point out to others that vegan or recycled doesn't have to be drab or boring!

You can check out the treasury HERE.

Check out my other cozy's and the rest of my shop HERE.

Thanks!

Baby Brainerd's blanket

Yet another blanket is done and gone -- it should be arriving in Maine and soon (hopefully! Eight days until due date!) will be snuggling up to Erin and Alec's baby girl.

Here are a few shots, to be updated when I receive pictures of the little one modeling it.

Now I'm well on my way to yet another blanket. I've got about 4 weeks to complete it. I'm excited about it, because I'm trying something new that hopefully will be appealing to buyers, and something that I can spread to my scarves, etc.

I can't say too much about it now, since it is a gift and I don't want to give it away should mom and dad make their way onto the blog and figure it out.

I decided to time myself for this one. See just how long these things take me and just how much I'm "paying" myself an hour. I'm about 5 hours in and I've completed about 1/15 of the blanket. which probably means I'm ultimately paying myself about 20 cents an hour. But, we'll see.

Stay tuned!

Well, that was nice.

I made this "wrap/lap blanket" several months ago (like, let's say November).

After all these months and lowering the price a couple of bucks here and there, a woman in Stillwater, Minn., bought it. I just noticed the feedback she left me after she got it:

As a knitter myself I love being able to buy something that is made well but not always having to do it yourself. I love my wrap it follows me many place including nite shifts at the hospital....my cats love it too! Thanks so much you do a great job!

It sure makes me feel good. I can't wait for the big winter push and hopefully getting into the Detroit Urban Craft Fair in November! This will be my second winter with the my Etsy shop open and I can't wait!

All in the family

Although I started a a little behind schedule, I managed to finish up the blanket I made for my nephew, Anthony Richard, less than three weeks after he was born. I say, not so bad.

This is Anthony:

He's just a peanut, but I already think he's really cool. Wise beyond his 19 days old. And I'm pretty sure we're going to have a lot of fun. Especially after he can walk and talk and eat candy I give him that he's not supposed to have.

He's the latest recipient of a custom made La Femme Monkita blanket. I've posted it in my Etsy shop too, at least for a couple of days.

Unfortunately, I thought his nursery was periwinkle, yellow and white. Turns out it's periwinkle, green and white and it's actually the sunroom/conservatory of the house that's got the yellow. Oh, well. I guess you can't win 'em all.

This is his older brother, Lucas Ambrose, who's smart enough to immediately make fun of how I'm holding the camera:

I learned how to knit when he was about 9 months old and I made him a big ol' blanket for his first birthday. As you can imagine, Anthony kind of made out with the better blanket. To him, I'd also have to say, "you can't win 'em all."

Next up is a custom made blanket for Baby Girl Brainerd, who's still cooking in mom Erin's belly for a couple of more weeks. I guess I better get cracking!
