Baby Brainerd's blanket

Yet another blanket is done and gone -- it should be arriving in Maine and soon (hopefully! Eight days until due date!) will be snuggling up to Erin and Alec's baby girl.

Here are a few shots, to be updated when I receive pictures of the little one modeling it.




Now I'm well on my way to yet another blanket. I've got about 4 weeks to complete it. I'm excited about it, because I'm trying something new that hopefully will be appealing to buyers, and something that I can spread to my scarves, etc.

I can't say too much about it now, since it is a gift and I don't want to give it away should mom and dad make their way onto the blog and figure it out.

I decided to time myself for this one. See just how long these things take me and just how much I'm "paying" myself an hour. I'm about 5 hours in and I've completed about 1/15 of the blanket. which probably means I'm ultimately paying myself about 20 cents an hour. But, we'll see.

Well, that was nice.

I made this "wrap/lap blanket" several months ago (like, let's say November).




After all these months and lowering the price a couple of bucks here and there, a woman in Stillwater, Minn., bought it. I just noticed the feedback she left me after she got it:

As a knitter myself I love being able to buy something that is made well but not always having to do it yourself. I love my wrap it follows me many place including nite shifts at the hospital....my cats love it too! Thanks so much you do a great job!

It sure makes me feel good. I can't wait for the big winter push and hopefully getting into the Detroit Urban Craft Fair in November! This will be my second winter with the my Etsy shop open and I can't wait!

All in the family

Although I started a a little behind schedule, I managed to finish up the blanket I made for my nephew, Anthony Richard, less than three weeks after he was born. I say, not so bad.

This is Anthony:




He's just a peanut, but I already think he's really cool. Wise beyond his 19 days old. And I'm pretty sure we're going to have a lot of fun. Especially after he can walk and talk and eat candy I give him that he's not supposed to have.

He's the latest recipient of a custom made La Femme Monkita blanket. I've posted it in my Etsy shop too, at least for a couple of days.



Unfortunately, I thought his nursery was periwinkle, yellow and white. Turns out it's periwinkle, green and white and it's actually the sunroom/conservatory of the house that's got the yellow. Oh, well. I guess you can't win 'em all.






This is his older brother, Lucas Ambrose, who's smart enough to immediately make fun of how I'm holding the camera:



I learned how to knit when he was about 9 months old and I made him a big ol' blanket for his first birthday. As you can imagine, Anthony kind of made out with the better blanket. To him, I'd also have to say, "you can't win 'em all."

Next up is a custom made blanket for Baby Girl Brainerd, who's still cooking in mom Erin's belly for a couple of more weeks. I guess I better get cracking!

The Myers blanket

Baby Lila Myers joined the world last weekend and it seems Joy and Mike have kept her snuggled up nicely in her La Femme Monkita custom made blanket!

And we're back on!

Anthony Richard finally decided to join us. I'm still only about 1/4 of the way done with his blanket. I better get working!

False alarm. Stand by...

It's go time.

I'm sitting at my sister's house, waiting to become an aunt for the second time, while my nephew sleeps soundly upstairs.

Of course, I just jinxed myself and as soon as I typed that he started mumbling. Hopefully this will pass.

Clearly, this is very exciting for me. I lived in Chicago when Lucas was born and I feel like he's finally getting to know who I am and feel a little more comfortable with me, after 2 1/2 years of seeing him every couple of months for maybe a day.

The only problem with this? My dear niece or nephew was not due to arrive for about 10 more days. And Aunt Kirsten just started his or her blanket two days ago.

And I likely won't get too much farther tonight. My new goal -- by mid-June this baby will have his or her very own La Femme Monkita blanket, matching the colors in the nursery -- something Lucas never got because I hadn't yet learned how to knit. (Though he did get a big ol' blanket for his first birthday).

The good news? I was able to move on to this blanket because the blanket I was hired to make for Joy and Mike (and baby Lila due in a matter of days) is finished! Thanks to a very, very long road trip to North Carolina last weekend, I was able to finish the blanket about two hours before we arrived back in Detroit on Sunday night.
