Knitting for a Cure with Knit Michigan!

I'm going to be knitting (and gathering some new tricks to put up my sleeve!) at Knit Michigan's Knitting Marathon Feb. 7 in Bloomfield Hills.

Through my $90 registration fee and whatever pledges I -- and the other knitters, spinners, crocheters and weavers can gather -- the organization hopes to raise $50,000 this year for cancer research.

That being said, do I want your money? Yes, if you can spare it. I'll take $5 or $50 or $500 (wishful thinking, I know). I know I only have a few weeks, but I'd like to surpass the suggested $250 donation and I'm setting a goal of raising $1,000. I will continue to update on my blog how much I've gathered in donations. It would feel great to reach my goal!

There are few different ways you could contribute:

1. Sponsor me! Help raise money by funding my $90 registration or part of it. You could send me a check or I can bill you via PayPal and you can pay with a credit or debit card.

2. Send me a tax-deductible donation. You can make it out directly to one of the organizations Knit Michigan has chosen to donate to for this year's Knit Marathon:

Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute
Beaumont Hospital's Rose Cancer Center
Genesys Health System
Gilda’s Club
University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center

Any amount is tax deductible and I can even send you an official Knit Michigan receipt for it. If you would like to donate this way, e-mail me at lafemmemonkita@gmail.com and I will tell you where you can mail a check. If you would rather PayPal me the money and have me write a check, I'm fine with that too. Just let me know.

3. Do you knit, crochet, etc? Make a comfort donation! I have to contribute at least one, but I hope to donate many more. There are patterns for chemo caps, comfort blankets and other items on the Knit Michigan Web site, as well as various places online.

4. Donate something for the Silent Auction! Any items that don't sell will be donated to a local woman's shelter.

Items you could donate include:

Stash yarn that needs a new home
fiber tools
books
videos
completed projects (even if you don't have time to make a chemo cap, donate a scarf for the auction!)
hand spun yarn

OR

gift gertificates from a Detroit area nail, hair, masseur, restaurant, gas station -- whatever you think people might fight over! Again, if you want to send me the money via PayPal I would be happy to buy gift cards from some local restaurants or salons.

I know we're all struggling right now with this crap economy, but if you have $10 or something else you could donate, I'm pretty sure there are some people who will appreciate it. Just let me know if you would like to help.

Thank you!
